The transformation

The brief
A roof space used for storage, and a client who had been working at the kitchen table for three years.

The approach
A rear dormer gave the floor area; full-height glazing at the gable gave the light. We insulated to well above the required standard because the room is used all day, and set the ensuite against the party wall to keep the working end quiet.

The outcome
Ten weeks, with the family living in the house throughout. The stair lands in what used to be a cupboard.
